ToolSust Online

ToolSust is a part of Key Action 4 "City of Tomorrow and Cultural Heritage" from the programme "Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development" within the Fifth Framework Programme of the EU.

In this project we take a look at the environmental situation in five European cities, and asses how the households can contribute to improve the present situation. The potential for change will be analysed in both a short- and long-term perspective.

The main innovative aspects of the project, is the development of tools for a sustainable development of consumption, and the involvement of stakeholders in this process: identifying goals, develop and test various tools for sustainable consumption and the implementation of these tools in everyday life.

City and town partners:

The project involves five cities in different European countries:

Fredrikstad (Norway)

Groningen (The Netherlands)

Padua (Italy)

Guildford (UK)

Stockholm (Sweden)

Aims of the project

During the last years both environmental organisations, politicians and the research community have concentrated on the development of sustainable cities. This is reflected in the European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign. The development of consumption pattern and consumption level in Europe represent a great challenge to the environmental goals both on national, European and global level. This project builds upon the work made in the sustainable cities network process and includes stakeholders such as: consumer organisations, environmental organisations, retailers, the local political authorities and local governments.

Aims of this homepage

Through this homepage we hope to "bring together" the city partners and the different stakeholders. Here they may find some information about the other citypartners, and hopefully use the discussion pages. Researchers, members of our European project cluster and other interested parties may also find the pages useful and interesting.

There are also some internal pages, for use within the project. These are restricted, and can only be accessed with a password.

Questions regarding the website can be sent to the webmaster.
